Lotus recalls 451 cars over oil line issue

Lotus has announced the recall of certain Elise and Exige models due to an oil line issue. The recall covers 2007-2008 model year Elise and Exige vehicles produced between December 1, 2006, and October 31, 2007.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, some Elise and Exige models may have left the factory with a defective fitting that could cause the oil cooler line to become detached.

The NHTSA warns that a loose oil line could spray the vehicle's tire, which could reduce traction and increase the likelihood of a crash. Oil spray could also cause a fire if it comes in contact with hot engine surfaces.

Lotus expects to begin the recall, which covers 451 cars in the United States, early next month. Lotus will fix the problem by replacing the oil line and the oil line fittings.

Lotus issued a similar recall back in 2011.
